Hi @Ric_TX

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP Inks, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

If you've already disabled the security chip for non-HP cartridges on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 but are still receiving an error, follow these troubleshooting steps:

Verify Firmware Version

  • Check if your printer's firmware was recently updated. HP occasionally releases firmware updates that re-enable cartridge authentication.
  • If you suspect this might have happened:
    • Visit the HP Customer Support - Software and Drivers page.
    • Search for your printer model and check if there's an older firmware version available to downgrade.

 Reinsert Cartridges

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Remove all cartridges.
  • Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and in the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinstall the cartridges and ensure they are seated properly.

 Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 2-3 minutes.
  • Reconnect the printer to power and turn it on.

 Disable Cartridge Protection

Ensure cartridge protection is fully disabled:

  • Access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Open a browser and type the printer’s IP address (find it on the printer control panel under Network Settings).
  • Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Disable Cartridge Protection or a similar option.
  • Save changes and restart the printer.

Bypass the Error Message

If the error persists:

  • On the printer screen, select OK or Ignore if the message allows you to proceed with printing.
  • Alternatively, attempt printing a document directly from a connected device and see if the printer bypasses the error.

Reset Printer to Factory Defaults

  • WARNING: This erases all network and custom settings.
  • Access the Settings Menu on the printer’s control panel:
    • Navigate to Restore Defaults or Reset Settings.
  • Reconfigure your printer after the reset.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
