Hi @KathyLL,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to encounter printing issues, especially when you've just installed new cartridges. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Check Cartridge Installation: Make sure the cartridges are properly installed. Sometimes, they may not be seated correctly, leading to printing issues.
  • Remove Protective Tape: Ensure that you have removed any protective tape or packaging from the cartridges before installing them. This tape can block the ink flow.
  • Run Printer Diagnostics: Many printers, including the HP Photosmart series, have built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify and resolve printing problems. Check your printer's manual or online support resources for instructions on how to run diagnostics.
  • Clean Print Heads: If the printer has been sitting unused for a while, the print heads may be clogged. Most printers have a utility for cleaning the print heads. You can usually find this option in the printer settings menu.
  • Use Genuine Cartridges: Ensure that you are using genuine HP cartridges. Third-party or refilled cartridges may not work properly and could cause printing issues.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Make sure your printer drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause compatibility issues with new cartridges.
  • Try a Test Page: Print a test page to see if any ink is being deposited on the paper. If the test page is blank, there may be a more serious issue with the printer or cartridges.

By following these steps, you should hopefully be able to identify and resolve the issue with your printer not printing properly despite having new cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I did all these steps and it still isn't printing. I returned the black cartridge to see if it was bad. No printing comes out from my laptop but I get a light Grey print from phone.
