macOS 10.12 Sierra

My photosmart C4680 is printing a double image or with a shadow. I have Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6.  Previous posted advice in 2021 (perform root level uninstallation, download and install driver, and update printer firmware) is for Windows only.

Hi @Sierra-10_12_6,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing printing issues like double images or shadows with your HP Photosmart C4680 printer on a Mac running macOS Sierra 10.12.6, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check Ink Cartridges: Ensure that your ink cartridges are properly installed and not low on ink. Sometimes, low ink levels or improperly seated cartridges can cause printing problems.

Clean Print Heads: Use the printer's utility software to clean the print heads. This can often resolve issues related to print quality.

Alignment: Run a print head alignment procedure from the printer's utility software. This helps ensure that the print heads are properly aligned, which can improve print quality.

Reset Printing System: Sometimes, resetting the printing system on your Mac can resolve printing issues. To do this:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) on the printer in the list and select "Reset printing system."
  • Confirm the action and then re-add your printer.

Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your printer installed on your Mac. You can download the drivers from the HP website or through the Software Update feature on your Mac.

Check Printer Settings: Make sure that the printer settings, such as paper size, type, and quality, are correctly configured for the print job.

Try a Different Application: If the issue occurs only with a specific application, try printing from a different application to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the issue is application-specific.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the printing issues you're experiencing with your HP Photosmart C4680 printer on macOS Sierra 10.12.6.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
