2 different error messages:

1) the following ink cartridge(s) must be replaced.

I replaced the black cartridge, upon which I got the 2nd message:

2) the indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer

Both replaced cartridges are new & the correct product (HP61) for my printer, HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer.

I have now wasted 2 hours fumbling through HP Support, Virtual Assistant, have been unsuccessful in downloading Firmware Driver (not available), and whatever other dead ends to where HP Support has directed me.

I suspect I will need to replace this printer, purchased in 2015; which will be annoying.  And will definitely not be with another HP product.  If on the other hand, there is a possible fix, I’m all ears (or eyes, as it were).

Hi @pollarddvm,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Dealing with printer issues can be frustrating, but let's try a few troubleshooting steps before considering replacing the printer.

  1. Check Cartridge Installation:

    • Make sure the cartridges are properly installed. Remove and reinsert them, ensuring they click into place.
  2. Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Remove the cartridges.
    • Clean the contacts on both the cartridges and the printer with a lint-free cloth.
    • Reinstall the cartridges.
  3. Update Printer Firmware:

    • While you mentioned issues with downloading firmware, it's worth trying again. Check the HP website for the latest firmware for your printer model.
  4. Reset Printer:

    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Wait for a minute or two.
    • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  5. Check Cartridge Expiry Date:

    • Ensure that the cartridges are not expired. The expiration date is usually printed on the cartridge packaging.
  6. Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

    • Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Sometimes, using third-party or refilled cartridges can cause compatibility issues.
  7. Check for Recalls or Updates:

    • Look for any recalls or updates related to your printer model on the HP website. There might be known issues with certain batches of printers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
