HP OfficeJet 5220 All-in-One Printer

I have gone through all the troubleshooting and even replaced my cartridges! They are brand new and I still get the same error message of the cartridge not communicating correctly!

Hi @FrauMusch,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand that you're facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 5220 All-In-One Printer where it's giving you an error message about the cartridges not communicating correctly, even though you've replaced them with brand new ones and gone through troubleshooting. This can be a frustrating problem, but there are several steps you can try to resolve it.

  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple power cycle can resolve communication issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the cartridges are correctly installed. Make sure they are securely snapped into place and that there are no protective tape or covers left on the cartridges.
  • Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Remove the cartridges from the printer and clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer using a lint-free cloth or a coffee filter. Be gentle and avoid touching the nozzles or copper-colored contacts.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer on the HP website. Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve compatibility issues.
  • Reset the Printer: You can try resetting the printer to its default settings. The steps may vary depending on the printer model, so refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Ensure there are no paper jams or obstructions inside the printer that could be causing the error.
  • Inspect for Damage: Carefully inspect the cartridge slots and contacts inside the printer for any physical damage or debris that may be obstructing proper communication.
  • Try Another Cartridge: If you have access to another set of cartridges, even if they're not new, try installing them to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem lies with the cartridges themselves.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
