New firmware won't allow replacement ink cartridges which are not HP chipped.
Need to print but black and white printing not available because yellow cartridge is depleted.
System appears designed to brick where any cartridge is depleted in order to force purchase of overpriced HP ink.
Any ideas to bypass issue, prior to the UK catching up with Europe and the US regarding settlement on consumer rights, welcomed.

It's not bricked, it is designed to work that way, HP printers for the last 20 years that have ink cartridges without the printhead on them will stop working if any ink cartridge is empty. It is not possible to bypass that, the only way to continue to print is to install working ink.
