I have a HP Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus that was printing fine, needed a cartidge change, once done it stopped working. I did not see the error message but have tried all of the tips given still to no avail. I love the printer and hope you can help me get it going again. I know there are 2 other cartridges that will need changing soon but still have ink, and with the cost of ink I don't want to change them prematurly.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus after changing the cartridge. Here are some steps you can try to get your printer working again:

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure the new cartridge is installed correctly. Remove it and reseat it, making sure it clicks into place.

Remove Protective Tape:

  • Double-check that all protective tape or seals have been removed from the new cartridge. Sometimes a small piece can block the ink flow.

Clean the Contacts:

  • Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer. Let everything dry before reinstalling.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Run the Printer’s Maintenance Utilities:

  • Go to the printer’s control panel, select Tools, and look for options like Clean Printhead or Align Printheads. This can help with print quality issues.

Check for Error Messages:

  • If any error messages appear on the printer's display, take note of them, as they can provide clues about the issue.

Print a Test Page:

  • Try printing a test page from the printer’s control panel to see if it can print at all. This will help determine if the problem is with the new cartridge or the printer itself.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check for any firmware updates for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve issues.

Try Another Cartridge:

  • If possible, try installing another new cartridge (if you have one available) to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the cartridge itself is faulty.
