printer wont print a drop of ink

my printer wont print a DROP of ink....my color cartridge is low but im not even using the color option, just black and white...my black ink cartridge is full...ive run plenty of clean cartridge cycles but still get totally blank pages

Use the single-cartridge mode to operate the HP ENVY 5540 series with only one ink cartridge. The single-
cartridge mode is initiated when an ink cartridge is removed from the ink cartridge carriage. During single-
cartridge mode, the printer can copy documents, copy photos, and print jobs from the computer.
