replaced ink cartridges, had trouble getting door open, but kind of forced it open.  Replaced ink cartridges, light still on and error code remains.

@MJ257, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with printer issues, especially after replacing the ink cartridges. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the error:

Reset the printer completely:

  • With the printer ON, pull the power plug from the wall.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in directly (no surge protectors).
  • Turn the printer ON again.
  • See if the error clears.

Remove and reinsert cartridges:

  • Open the door carefully.
  • Take both cartridges out again.
  • Check:
Any stickers still left on the cartridge contacts?
Any dirt, ink, or damage on the copper contacts?
  • Gently wipe the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water (not tap water).
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click.

Inspect the carriage area:

  • Look inside: any plastic tab, spring, or metal contact that looks bent or broken?
  • If yes, the forced door opening might have slightly dislodged the sensor — I can guide you on that too if needed.

Check for "door sensor" issue:

  • If the printer thinks the door is still open or improperly closed (because it was forced), it may keep showing an error.
  • Gently press the cartridge access door when closing — see if you can feel a firm "click".
  • If no click, or if the door feels loose, the door sensor might not be engaging correctly.

Update firmware:

  • If you can access the printer menus, update the firmware via HP Smart App or printer's own control panel.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
