@Busterbraddock, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your cartridge leakage!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand that your newly inserted HP 218A cartridge is leaking, and I’d be happy to assist you.

Could you please provide a few details to help troubleshoot?

  1. What is your printer model? (You can find this on the printer itself or in HP Smart.)
  2. Is the cartridge an original HP cartridge or a third-party one?
  3. Where exactly is the leakage occurring? (Inside the printer, on the cartridge surface, or while printing?)
  4. Did you notice any error messages or print quality issues?

Basic Troubleshooting Steps:

Check for Physical Damage

  • Remove the cartridge and inspect it for cracks, leaks, or unusual damage.

Reinstall the Cartridge Properly

  • Power off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the leaking cartridge and gently wipe away any excess toner with a dry, lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert the cartridge, ensuring it clicks into place securely.

Clean the Printer

  • Check for toner residue inside the printer.
  • If there’s leakage inside, use a dry microfiber cloth to clean it carefully.

If the issue continues, let me know your printer model and the details above so I can assist further. Looking forward to your response!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
