I stopped my instant ink subscription since I only print 10 pages a month. Now my printer is locked up, I can't print, and the "help" is to factory reset my printer. any suggestions

Please read this post and then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system? Are there any error messages on the printer or computer screen?

 

Did you replace the HP Instant Ink cartridges with retail cartridges?  Once your Instant Ink subscription is no longer active you will need to replace any Instant Ink cartridges in the printer.
