Hi @mikeprint,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The issue of documents printing with an all-black background on your HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer using macOS 12.0 Monterey could be due to driver issues, incorrect print settings, or software glitches.

Step 1: Check Printer Settings

  1. On your Mac mini, open the document you want to print.
  2. Go to File > Print.
  3. Under the Print Settings or Layout, check for:
  • Background Printing or Inverse Colors — Ensure these are disabled.
  • Color Options — Confirm that Black & White or Grayscale is not selected unintentionally.

Step 2: Reset the Printing System

  1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click or Control + Click on the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
  3. Confirm by clicking Reset.
  4. Re-add the HP ENVY Photo 7855 by clicking the + button.

Step 3: Update or Reinstall Printer Driver

  1. Go to HP's official website and download the latest HP Easy Start for macOS.
  2. Uninstall any existing HP 7855 driver on your Mac.
  3. Reinstall the latest driver using HP Easy Start.

Step 4: Check for Firmware Update

  1. On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
  2. Check for and install any available firmware updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
