Hi @SimonOC7,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for the update. Since your HP DeskJet 2742e All-in-One can print a test page but not regular documents on Windows 11, that means the hardware is fine, and the issue is likely software-related, possibly with the print spooler, driver, or settings. Here's how to fix it:
Step-by-Step Fix:
1. Restart the Print Spooler
This clears any stuck jobs or corrupted queues.
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter
- Find Print Spooler
- Right-click it → Restart
2. Set Your HP Printer as Default
- Press Windows + I → go to Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
- Select your HP DeskJet 2742e
- Click Set as default
3. Reinstall or Update the HP Printer Driver
- Go to Device Manager
- Expand Printers, right-click your HP DeskJet 2742e, and choose Uninstall device
- Then reinstall the driver using HP’s full software package:

4. Try Printing from a Different App
- Try printing from Notepad or WordPad
- If it works there but not in Word or Chrome, the problem may be app-specific (e.g., corrupted Office install)
5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor( HP Smart App)
This tool automatically diagnoses and repairs common printing issues.
6. If the Problem Persists:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
- Right-click your HP printer → Printer properties
- In the Advanced tab, ensure Spool print documents is selected, and Start printing immediately is checked
- Then, in the Ports tab, make sure the correct USB or Wi-Fi port is selected
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
