Hi @Vinken

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 107w printer isn't recognizing the new cartridge, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Check the Cartridge Installation

  • Make sure the cartridge is properly seated in the printer. Gently remove and reinsert the cartridge, ensuring it clicks into place.
  • Verify that the protective plastic tape (or any other protective materials) has been removed from the cartridge before installation.

2. Clean the Cartridge and Printer Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and remove the cartridge.
  • Using a soft, lint-free cloth, gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer where the cartridge connects.
  • Sometimes, dust or ink residue can interfere with proper communication.

3. Restart the Printer

  • After reinstalling the cartridge, turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn the printer back on. This can help reset any communication issues between the printer and the cartridge.

4. Check for Ink Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure that you are using the correct ink cartridge for your HP 107w. Sometimes, non-genuine or incompatible cartridges may cause recognition issues.
  • Verify that the cartridge is specifically designed for the HP 107 series.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues with cartridges. Check for any available firmware updates:
    • Go to HP's support website for your printer model.
    • Download and install any available updates that may address cartridge recognition.

6. Reset the Printer

  • Try resetting the printer to clear any internal errors:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Hold the power button for about 15 seconds, then release it.
    • Turn the printer back on and check if the issue is resolved.

7. Test with a Different Cartridge

  • If possible, try a different, known-to-be-working cartridge to see if the issue is with the cartridge itself. If the printer recognizes a different cartridge, the original one may be defective.

8. Check for Error Messages

  • If the printer is showing any specific error codes or messages related to the cartridge, take note of them. Sometimes, this can give more insight into the issue.

I hope this helps.
