Hello,
I bought a used printhead because mine stop working.
Unfortunately, the person I bought it from used non-original ink cartridges.
I replaced it to an original new cartridge, but there is a problem - there is this error message:
"This printer is not designed to use continuous ink system. To resume printing, remove continuous ink system and install original HP (or compatible) cartridges".
What can I do so the printer will understand that it is a new and original ink cartridge (that cost me a lot of money)??
Thank you,
Inbal

Hi @Inbalakriv ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 is detecting the continuous ink system (CIS) instead of the original ink cartridge you've installed. This issue typically arises because the printer's firmware recognizes the CIS as non-original cartridges, even if you've replaced it with a genuine HP cartridge.
Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
- Check if the error message persists.
Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve compatibility issues with cartridges. You can check for firmware updates through the printer's control panel or HP's support website.
Reset the CIS (Continuous Ink System) if possible:
- If your printer's CIS has its own reset procedure, follow those instructions. Sometimes resetting the CIS can help the printer recognize the new cartridge.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts:
- Ensure that the contacts on both the printer and the new cartridge are clean and free from any dust or debris. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to gently clean the contacts.

I hope this helps.
