I have a "Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M283cdw" printer, this new toner cartridge will not work. I have used third party "compatible cartridges" before, with no problems.

Hi @Sequaya

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw is having trouble recognizing the toner cartridge. If you've used third-party cartridges before without issues, a firmware update or chip compatibility problem might be causing this. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Check Cartridge Policy Settings

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > System Setup > Supply Settings.
  • Look for Cartridge Policy and Cartridge Protection.
  • If enabled, turn them OFF to allow third-party cartridges.

2. Try Rolling Back the Firmware

  • Some users have reported success by installing an older firmware version.
  • You can check HP’s support community for discussions on this here.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • This can help clear any temporary recognition errors.

4. Try a Different Third-Party Cartridge

  • Some third-party cartridges may have incompatible chips.
  • If possible, test with another brand or supplier.

Additional Help

HP’s support community has discussions on third-party toner compatibility here. You can also check HP’s official troubleshooting guide for toner cartridges here. Let me know if you need further clarification! Hopefully, this gets your Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw back to printing properly. 😊
