HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 All-in-One Printer

Mac OS Ventura 13.7.5.  Followed the post on removing paper jam (HP OfficeJet Pro 9818).  Have three sheets of papper jammed all along the paper path.  Gently pulling only results in torn paper.  How can I release the rollers so the paper can be removed without damaging the printer?

Hi @HappyTrvlr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Power Off and Unplug the Printer:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source to ensure safety during the process.

Access the Rear Paper Path:

  • Locate the rear access panel or duplexer at the back of the printer.
  • Depending on the model, you might need to release a latch or press tabs to remove this panel.

Gently Remove Jammed Paper:

  • Carefully pull out any visible jammed paper from the back of the printer. If the sheets tear, ensure to remove all small torn pieces, as they could cause further jams.

Check the Paper Path and Rollers:

  • Use a flashlight to inspect the inside of the printer for any remaining pieces of paper or debris.
  • Gently rotate the rollers manually to check for any pieces of paper wound around them.

Release the Rollers (If Needed):

  • Some printers allow manual rotation of rollers which can be done by gently turning the rollers yourself. Avoid forcing them, as this might damage the mechanism.
  • If your printer offers a maintenance mode or function to rotate the rollers, consult the user manual or HP support for guidance specific to your model.

Front Access:

  • Open the front cover to access the print carriage area. Ensure there are no remaining bits of paper jammed in this area as well.

Reassemble and Test:

  • Once all paper pieces are removed, reattach the panels and close any open access doors.
  • Reconnect the printer to power and turn it on.
  • Perform a test print to ensure that the printer is functioning correctly.

I hope this helps.
