All the lights on my HP 6000 printer are flashing, but my HP laptop doesn't recognize the printer.

My HP 6000 printer has all the lights flashing.  The Laptop doesn't recognize the printer/.  USB is plugged in to no avail.

Reset the printer

  1. Press the Power button () to turn off the product.


    The product might not turn off after pressing the Power button. Continue to the next step regardless.

  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.

  3. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.

  4. Wait 60 seconds.

  5. Reconnect the power cord to the electrical outlet.

  6. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.

  7. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

Check the printhead installation


Step one: Remove the printhead

  1. Make sure that the product is on.

  2. Lift the top cover. The carriage moves to the center of the product.

  3. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent.

  4. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.

  5. Remove the cartridges. Press the tab on each cartridge, and then remove each cartridge from its slot.


    Do not leave the cartridges outside the product longer than 30 minutes. Doing so can result in damage to both the product and the cartridges.

  6. Lift the latch handle on the carriage until it stops.

  7. Lift the printhead straight up to remove it.

Step two: Reinstall the printhead

  1. Reinsert the printhead. Make sure that the green and purple blocks on the sides of the printhead align with the corresponding color blocks on the carriage; green to green, purple to purple.

  2. Carefully lower the latch handle before reinserting the cartridges.


    Leaving the latch handle raised can result in incorrectly seated cartridges and printing issues. The latch must remain down to correctly install the cartridges.

  3. Reinstall the cartridges. Using the colored shape icons for help, slide the cartridges into their appropriate slots until they snap into place and are seated firmly in the slot.

  4. Close the top cover.

  5. Try printing again.
