Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I am working on my C8180 printer. I failed to take note of the printhead encoder position and gear selector when I disassmebled the printer. When I re-assembled it, the printhead moves around a number of times and does its priming routine. Then the touchscreen delivers a paper jam message even though no paper was picked up by the machine.  If I clear it by pressing OK, the process repeats and produces another paper jam error. During the process, the ink pump does not operate. It seems as if the machine is out of sync with its components.

With the waste ink reservoir set at the home/printhead lockdown position as shown below, what position should the encoder be in? Should it be in position A or B? Or should it be in some other position?

Also, where should the gear selector position be?

I might be able to figure this out with trial and error but it would save a lot of time and hassle if an HP engineer could answer these questions for me.

Thanks!

@Dave_C8180, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

This is an end-of-life printer and support options are limited. There are no instructions or guides available about the hardware setup/components of this model printer.

You may take it to a nearby service center or upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
