Hello everyone, my HP CM2320 has developed a very odd squicking sound. It seems to be coming from the area highlighted, so near the toner trayIMG-20220512-134856.jpg

. It is extremely evident whenever it is calibrating and seems to be getting worse. However it doesn't produce the sound when it s printing only after the printing job is finished. I have uploaded a video of the issue here https://youtube.com/shorts/Ue3MURDSE7E?feature=share . Any suggestions of the cause and possible fixes will be  greatly appreciated. It may be over ten years old but ,as is evident from the like-new finish it s been lightly used by the previous owner and It's been in my possession for about 3 year with no issues as I mostly use it for color printing and copying so I would like to try and remedy this problem before it develops into a larger issue. Thank you and have a great day.

Almost sounds like a cartridge, what are your toner levels like.

Thank you for your reply, and for the excellent idea. All toners are HP OEM but the black cartridge was  refilled about a year ago,for the first time btw, For reference the magenta had very recently run out and the yellow is also very low but neither were giving me any issues ,nor was the squiky sound originanting from them as they are situated much deeper in the case.

Working off your suggestion, I measured the tray area and worked out that indeed it seemed  to come from where the black toner was situated  so I opened the tray and re-seated the black toner cartridge and the squicking sound is gone

So thank you, I thought is must have been some sort of belt wearing out and was prepared to dig out a service manual and open up the side case but your suggestion seems to have fixed the issue. I have detailed my response to serve as  a possible fix for other people who might find themselves with a similar issue. For the record, besides the squiking sound, it was noticeably warmer in that area, which did help me point out the source.

Just as a side note, a refilled cartridge is no longer considered an OEM. The bushings and seals have a design life ~ equal to the amount of toner originally installed at the factory and with every page beyond that point parts continue to wear and introduce not only noise but the possibility of toner leakage.

 Ok that's good to know.

To be more precise all of color toners were never refilled and this is my first time ever refilling the black toner. Might explain the squeaking sound, will look out for leakage. Thank you again and have a nice day
