Tray 2 cannot be opened.  It is stuck and can only be pulled forward about 1/4 inch. What technique may be used to allow the drawer to be opened or pulled forward?

Check from the back, I do not remember if there is a flap that lifts up when you have legal paper loaded. If there is, you may be able to see what is causing the problem and perhaps dislodge with a long screwdriver.

Unfortunately, on the CP4005, there is no access to tray 2 from the rear.  An additional item of information, the panel displays "INSERT OR CLOSE TRAY 2" even though the tray is closed and cannot be opened.

I would suggest that you power off the unit, remote the toner cartridges and the transfer belt and then turn the printer on it's side so you can see the bottom of the printer for possible items jamming it. In some cases brute strength might be the only way to remove the tray.

If you have the skillset, removing the paper feed assembly, RM1-1756-000CN may be helpful in removing tray.  Basic mechanical skills required.  Remove all toners and belt.  Paper feed assembly sits on the bottom.

Remove small black cover.  Disconnect connectors.  Remove two screws.  Lift paper feed assembly up and out.
