Envy Photo 7130
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Once again I am unable to print photos. I have spent more than an hour trying to print one photo. The printer is set up for photo printing but it just tells me time and time again to load the photo tray. It is loaded with photo paper obviously. Then it tells me I have a paper jam, which I haven't. I have taken the paper out and reloaded it about 40 times without success. I have had this problem before many times so much so that I very rarely bother to try printing any photos at all. The whole point of buying a photo printer is for its ability to print photos. Unfortunately this printer doesn't appear to have this facility. I should have sent it back while it was still under warranty. The last time I tried and failed to print some photos I ended up going to my neighbours and used their printer. Always had Epson in the past and they have been brilliant which is more than I can say about HP. Unless any one can come up with a solution then I think the only thing I can do is bin it and buy another Epson.

I am hearing the frustration.

We don't have some of the needed details on what you are doing.

Below are some questions and a few suggestions...

For example,

:Arrow_Right:Which software are you using to view and submit the job to the printer?

This is important because it tells us a lot about what the printer might be perceiving about the job.

:Arrow_Right:Have you installed the Full Feature Software?

HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software

Select Full Driver when asked for which software > Restart computer after software is installed.

This is important because it informs the software what the printer can do and allows easier setup and control of jobs.

The Full Feature Software provides a foundation on which other photo / document applications depend for information about the printer.

:Arrow_Right:  Are you using HP Smart Application?

If not, please try it.

HP Smart for Windows

HP Smart is an application available in the Microsoft Store

HP Printers - Using the HP Smart App (Windows 10)

  • Website includes the HP Smart software for Windows and Mobile devices, plus an FAQ section to assist with questions / issues
  • Latest versions of HP Smart require that you be signed into the application

:Arrow_Right:  What paper are you using?  Type and Size?

This is important because if the paper size is not standard, you might have to create a Custom Paper Size form.

 Creating Custom Paper Sizes

:Arrow_Right:  Is the paper supported by the printer Specifications?  (Weight?)

Product Specifications for the HP ENVY Photo 7130 All-in-One Printer (Z3M47B)

:Arrow_Right:  Is the paper loaded correctly and in the right tray for the paper size?

User Guide

Starting on Page 15

For example, if the paper is larger than 4x6", it likely needs to be loaded into the regular tray.

What else?

:Arrow_Right:  Does the printer know about the paper in the tray?

For Example,

If the paper is supported (meets the weight requirements for the paper type),

Remove existing paper in the printer tray

Add stack of paper to be used

Right after loading the paper...

Tell the printer what you are doing...

Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper at the Printer Display Panel

Note:  This option is not applicable to printers that lack a printer display panel and may not be available on all printer models that do include a printer display panel.

Open Printer Tray,

If you have not yet done so, add desired paper type

Wait a couple of seconds…

Close Tray

IF applicable for your printer:

Look for a message on the Printer Control / Display Panel,

Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK

NOTE:  If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down menu, Select Custom (likely the last selection in the list)

And / Or

Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Note:  This option is not applicable to printers connected via a USB printer cable (no network connection).

If the printer is on the network,

If the EWS feature is supported on your printer,

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view / configure your printer.

NOTE:  Laser printer options in EWS are very different from those offered in InkJet Printers.

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management

If applicable, check the Advanced section (at the bottom of the Tray and Paper Management menu)

Click Apply to save changes

NOTE:  If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down menu, Select Custom (likely the last selection in the list)

Set the Preferences - Windows

Note Ignore this section when not relevant – for example, when using Word > Mailings > Envelopes

Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”

Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners

UNCHECK (clear box) Let Windows manage my default printer

Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Manage > Set as Default

  1. Select and adjust settings in each category for the Media (kind of paper), source (tray), and paper size.

Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners

Left-Click on (your) Printer > Manage > Printing Preferences

Tab Printing Shortcuts > Click / Highlight your preferred shortcut > Click Apply > Click OK to exit

NOTE - Make changes to a Shortcut

  • Select a shortcut and adjust the settings for paper, source (tray), other settings / Tabs
  • Scan Menu for HP Scan >>  If there is a More > section, check / adjust settings in the sub-sections > Click OK to save sub-menu changes
  • If supported, save the edited shortcut or use “Save As” or “Create Custom Shortcut” to save as a new / different file name
  • Click OK to save the setup

I have a similar problem but only with 4 x 6 photo paper. It will not pick it up. 5 x 7 works ok but it will simply not function properly when using 4 x 6 ? I can hear it whirring and clunking away for about 30 seconds before prompting me to load the paper tray or sort out a jam. This is not what i paid good money for. Today i had to print x2,  4 x 6 photo's and ended up driving 5 miles to tesco's to get it done. Not acceptable.
