Will not pickup envelope

Hi @Ramseye,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your DeskJet 2640 isn’t picking up envelopes. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

1. Load the envelopes correctly

Make sure the envelopes are:

Placed on the right side of the input tray.

Short edge inserted first, flap closed, print side down.

Aligned with the paper-width guides touching the edges.

2. Use supported envelope types

The printer can only feed certain types:

Plain, smooth envelopes (e.g., #10)

No thick, glossy, padded, or textured envelopes
Unsupported types will often fail to feed.

3. Fan and straighten the envelopes

Sometimes they stick together.

Fan them a few times.

Tap them on a flat surface to align the edges.

4. Check the input tray for debris or jammed bits of paper

Small scraps inside the tray can stop the rollers from gripping.

Remove all paper.

Shine a light into the tray and remove any obstructions.

5. Clean the paper pick rollers

Dust on the rollers prevents envelope pickup.

Power off and unplug the printer.

Access the rollers from the rear area or input tray.

Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with clean water to wipe the rollers.

Rotate them manually to clean the full surface.

Let them dry for 10–15 seconds before using the printer again.

6. Try feeding a single envelope

Load only one envelope at a time to give the rollers maximum grip.

I hope this helps.
