The document feeder on my 7855 has never worked from the day I purchased this printer.  I have tried ALL the suggestions I've read on this forum.  Cleaned everything, checked the rollers, etc, etc.  Anything else I should try before returning this printer for a replacement?  Sometimes I get the audible 'ding' when entering a page into the feeder, but it doesn't feed the original. Sometimes no matter what I do I cant get the sensor to recognize that I've place a document in the feeder. Sounds like a physical problem on this printer.  Please advise.

If the device is under warranty and has never worked it does sound like a physical problem and it is not reasonable to expend too much of your time trying to determine that problem. I would talk to the place of purchase and if they won't exchange you may have to open a case at support.hp.com and go through some troubleshooting with them.
