HP 1001 nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi just bought this printer, after using for years the HP 1018, 1020.

This morning I tried to print envelopes, and often get jammed. When it does not jam, anyway the envelope gets ruined, with creases on it.

Finally, when I print on both sides, at time smudges of ink are on the printed page and at time a bit of ghost text.

I have done the right settings on the computer for envelopes, paper, etc. As said, it is at leadt 18 years I use HP laser printers. Never had this kind of problems.

Please let m eknow what can be done.

maybe I should just bring the printer back to the shop?

There is also a kind of strange noise that I hear when the printer starts with the first page, like a strident but brief noise.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Does this only happen with envelopes?

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

Try a firmware update as well: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Let me know if this helps.
