HP ENVY 5010 All-in-One Printer

My Envy 5010 starts to print, but halts after completing about an inch of text/image, whereupon the paper remains within the rollers and the machine gives a repeated clicking sound. When the print instruction is cancelled, the sheet then emerges from the printer, largely blank but with just the top inch of the required page visible.

Could be a number of reasons for this -- Some of these - as you know - are related to the Operating System, the paper, and the software / application settings you are using to open, view, configure, and submit the job to the printer.

From the "outside looking in", not having any context to what you are doing, and based on the presumed age of the printer, I can think of a couple of places to (re)check.

=============================================

The printer might maintenance or need to be cleaned.

This document includes instructions to clean the print rollers inside the printer:

 Paper Jam Error

==============================================

Related to maintenance -- harder to detect --

The fault might be in the paper

What?

Too dry, too damp, curled, damaged, scalloped edges -- "something" that has made the paper unsuitable

If this is not the same paper you have used previously, (re)check the Specifications to make sure the paper is supported (size, type, weight).

Paper Handling

=============================================

Check that the printer is aware of the paper size and paper type you are using for the current job.

EWS > HP Document / How-to

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

EWS – Browser – Tray and Paper Management

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management

Model Dependent:  Advanced section

Click Apply to save changes

Less likely without any error message:

The printer might be running into an issue with the translation of the image in the content.

What?

Mixed content generally requires that the document / file be translated into printer language that the printer understands.  If there is something in the image that fails to translate correctly, the job would usually fail outright.  If the error is not one for which there is a "clean exit" from the problem, the job might simply hang (get stuck mid-print).

IF that is the issue -- and if there is a method to do so using the Operating System and printer software / application, the fix for this type of "Cannot read what is sent" error might be to simply print the document / file as an Image.
