Envy 5540 paper will not feed. Out of paper error with paper in tray. printer making grinding noise when trying to pull paper in. The problem began with paper jam errors when there was no paper jam. Had to unplug printer and plug back in to clear error and get the printer started again. This finally quit working and now paper will not feed into the printer at all. Printer just makes a grinding noise now when I try to do a print job, then it finally errors out for no paper in tray. Anything that I can check or fix? I'm not afraid to take it apart. Please advise. Thank you.

@Rollie2, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand the printer is not picking the paper. Are you using regular plain paper?

Make sure the papers are properly inserted in the tray. Refer to - Loading Paper, Envelopes, and Cards

Perform the steps mentioned in this document - An 'Out of Paper' error displays, printer does not pick paper

Clean the paper rollers as shown in the document.

Try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

If the issue persists, please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service options for your printer as this could be a hardware issue.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

I have cleaned the rollers and checked for any hard to see paper jams. It is something mechanical. I hear some rattling going on when the paper feeder activates. The rollers do not turn so I have to conclude that something is broken or misaligned  in the paper feeder drive. Thanks for the feedback.
