One month after warranty expired, a paper jam error code (5) popped up and will not reset. There is NO paper in there. Definitely not putting more money towards HP! Going back to Brother or Canon which last well beyond warranty. Anyone else have this problem or get the code to reset back? To HP: tell me why I should stay with you.

Hi @pd584,

Thank you for your response,

It sounds like your HP LaserJet MFP M234sdwe printer is experiencing a false paper jam error. Here are some steps to help resolve it.

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Open all accessible areas of the printer:

  • The front and back paper trays.
  • The output area where printed documents exit.
  • Any rear access panel for clearing paper jams.

Check for any small bits of paper or debris that might be stuck inside. Even a tiny scrap can trigger a jam error.

Inspect the paper rollers for any paper dust, dirt, or anything obstructing the rollers. Clean them carefully with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Clear the paper path:

  • Check the paper feed area, even if there’s no visible paper. Sometimes, a small piece can be lodged out of sight.
  • Gently pull out any paper tray and ensure the paper guides are properly aligned.

Check the sensor:

  • Some printers have paper jam sensors located near the paper path. Ensure that the sensor is not blocked by dust or debris.

Reset the printer:

  • After checking and clearing, plug the printer back in.
  • Turn it on and see if the error is cleared.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi, Thanks for the response, but I have tried all those things. The person I spoke to a few days ago says that it probably needs servicing for a faulty sensor. As I'm sure you can appreciate, this did not make me happy as this printer is only a year old. I am not putting a penny more into this machine. As I stated before, I had a brother that lasted for years. This is my first experience with HP and, most likely, my last. I appreciate your attempt to help. I know this is not your fault. But I have wasted enough hours trying to find the mysterious piece of paper - everything besides taking the whole machine apart. I did all that you said, I cleaned the rollers, I did a factory reset. Judging from the chat forum this sounds like a very common problem with HP printers. UGH!
