Product: HP DeskJet Plus 4122 All-in-One Printer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a back feed and top feed paper tray - however my printer doesnt allow me to change the option - very annoying as i have to feed the paper manually into the back feed tray as it has never grabbed ANY weight of paper from 80gsm upwards

That printer model has one back paper tray and recommended paper weight for plain paper is 75 gsm.

no it has TWO - a back feed and top feed - and the spec says it takes up to 250gsm - the main reason for buying the printer

That top feeder is for loading originals for copy or scan, not for printing.  The 250gsm is for photo paper, for plain paper is 75 gsm recommended.

why then did it give me the option to print from this - and - i have printed from the computer via the top feed - please do not tell me that this was not an option as i have printed from top feed since purchasing the printer new

The top feeder is only for loading originals to scan or copy.
