Hi @Sitzmark

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

Let's go over a few steps to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

Sometimes, the paper feed issue can be caused by something blocking the paper path:

  • Open the printer's access panel and remove any paper that might be stuck inside.
  • Check the paper path carefully for any small pieces of paper or foreign objects that could be obstructing the feed rollers.
  • Also, make sure there’s nothing blocking the feed rollers from rotating freely.

2. Clean the Feed Rollers

Dust or debris can cause the feed rollers to slip or not grip the paper properly. Cleaning them could help:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the paper tray and access panel to expose the paper feed rollers.
  • Dampen a lint-free cloth with water (not too wet), and gently clean the feed rollers. Rotate them by hand to clean the full surface.
  • Let the rollers dry completely before plugging the printer back in.

3. Check Paper Type and Alignment

Make sure you're using the correct paper type and size for your printer:

  • Check that the paper is properly aligned in the paper tray. If the paper is not seated correctly or is stacked too high, it may not feed into the printer properly.
  • Ensure you are using the correct paper size that the printer supports, and that the paper is not too thick or too thin for the printer.
  • Ensure you are not using damaged or curled paper. This can cause the rollers to skip over the paper.

4. Test the Paper Feed Mechanism

To see if the feed rollers are turning properly, try the following:

  • Open the paper tray and place a few sheets of paper inside.
  • Manually push the paper gently into the rollers.
  • Turn the printer on and try to print. If the rollers don’t engage, there could be an issue with the mechanism that might need professional repair.

5. Perform a Printer Reset

Sometimes a simple reset can help resolve mechanical issues:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for about 1-2 minutes.
  • While the printer is unplugged, press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to clear any residual power.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Try printing again to see if the issue has been resolved.

6. Check for Firmware Updates

Occasionally, firmware updates can fix issues with the printer’s functionality, including paper feed problems:

  • Open the HP Smart App (if you have it installed) or go to HP Support online to check for any available firmware updates for your HP Photosmart 7520 printer.
  • If there is an update, follow the prompts to install it and see if it resolves the issue.

7. Try a Factory Reset (if applicable)

If none of the above steps work, you could try performing a factory reset to clear any configuration issues. Keep in mind this will erase your settings, so make sure to note your preferences before doing this.

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Restore Defaults > Restore All Settings (this may vary depending on your printer model).
  • Follow the prompts to reset the printer.
