Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP 8025 printer and love it.  Lately I have been printing with 100 lb smooth cardstock for crafts I am doing.  It prints beautifully, BUT .... it pulls slowly and begins to print at the very top of the page, ignoring top margin.  I have indicated that this is Thick paper both on the printer and in the application I am using (Word and PDF).

How can I get it to obey margins?

Thank you!

Susan

The Media selection "Thick Paper" might not be adequate.

It depends on the definition of "thick paper".

There are ISO standards for paper types.

Among these:  Text, Index, Cover, Bond

From the basic manufactured types are made the different papers used for different tasks.

Assuming the paper stock is Card Index as opposed to Card Cover, then the paper is perhaps within the limitations for weight.  What?  The stock from which the paper is made affects the way the weight translates from "lb" to "gsm".

Media Weight Recommended (imperial)16 to 28 lb (plain paper); 60 to 75 lb (photo); 20 to 24 lb (envelope); 90 to 110 lb (card)
Media Weight Recommended (metric)60 to 105 g/m² (plain); 220 to 280 g/m² (photo); 75 to 90 g/m² (envelope); 163 to 200 g/m² (card)
Media Weights Supported, By Paper Path (Imperial)16 to 28 lb (plain paper); 60 to 75 lb (photo); 20 to 24 lb (envelope); 90 to 110 lb (card)

What to do?

Consider selecting a different Media (kind of paper).

Reminder:

Some paper types must be matched to a particular paper size.

It might be needful to create a Custom Paper Size form.

Media Size (facet)Letter; A4; Legal; B5
Media Sizes Custom (imperial)Tray 1: 3 x 5 to 8.5 x 14 in
Media Sizes Custom (metric)Tray 1: 76.2 x 127 to 215.9 x 355.6 mm

Media - Paper Type - Selections

For example,

  • Card (if it is available)
  • Brochure matte (or glossy) is the gsm equivalent weight is near the 180 gsm mark.
  • Presentation paper is about the same as Brochure - same weight assumptions - choose this paper if other(s) not available.

What else?

Based on the printer model...

If you have not done so, consider installing the update for the printer Firmware.

At this writing, the current update is marked "Critical"

Reminder:  Always read the description and any other sections before installing Firmware.

and

If you have not done so, download-save-install the Full Feature Software for the printer

HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software

About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full" driver set (as opposed to the basic driver).

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Full driver provides print and scan functions (even if HP Smart continues to be stubborn).
