Officejet Pro 8610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

We have an HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer and have the same problem as a few others on the forum.

When I turn on the printer I get an 'Improper Shutdown' message. If I click OK to that message I get a 'Paper Jam' message. I have been looking for paper jams, cleaning the rollers and resetting the printer by pulling out the plug while the printer is turned on.

The carriage does not voluntarily move to the left when I open the front cover with the power turned on. I was able to remove the ink cartridges with the printer turned off by moving the carriage to the left by hand. However reinserting the cartridges when the printer was turned on again did not fix the problem.

Some mentioned an advanced reset procedure. Could I try the same thing?

Thanks.

@Kriek001, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

This is a hardware issue. Advanced reset will not help in this case. Make sure you have tried the steps mentioned in this document - Paper Jam Error and 'Carriage Jam' or 'E3' Error Displays

If the issue persists, please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
