HP 8720 - first page intermitently blurry

macOS 10.15 Catalina

Our printer randomly prints the first page blurry.  This is independent of any application and is highly irritating.  Happens most often when you are in a hurry and do not have the time to reprint the first page.  All following pages are fine.  While this makes me CRAZY, otherwise, I love this printer.

Which application are you trying to print from?

What happens when you make photocopies on the printer?

 

Meanwhile, ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with its software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:

Update printer firmware

Update software on Mac 

 

Remove and add the printer

Click the Apple menu, and then select System Preferences.

Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

Click the name of your printer, click the Minus sign, and then delete the printer.

 

Select printer and click the minus sign

Click the Plus sign, and then click Add Printer or Scanner.

Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select AirPrint

 

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

 

Click Add to add the printer to the list.

Try to print.

We connect to the printer via AirPrint but this happens from many applications - safari, word, excel chrome etc.  scanning and making copies works fine and does not result in the intermittent first blurry page.

Have you tried using the HP Smart App to print from? If no, refer to the document HP Printers - Install and Use the HP Smart App (Mac)  for instructions.
