My HP Envy 4500 printer keeps jamming. When I try again I get the message "load paper tray' when there is already paper in it.

Hi @SJD41,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 4500 printer is experiencing frequent paper jams and is showing the "Load Paper Tray" message despite having paper in it, follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

**1. Check Paper Tray

Verify Paper Placement:

  • Make sure the paper is correctly aligned and seated in the paper tray. The paper should be flat and not too full.

Adjust Paper Guides:

  • Ensure the paper guides in the tray are adjusted to fit the paper size. Paper guides should lightly touch the edges of the paper without bending it.

**2. Inspect Paper Path

Check for Paper Jam:

  • Open the paper tray and the rear access door (if applicable) to check for any jammed paper or debris. Remove any stuck paper carefully to avoid tearing.

Clean the Paper Path:

  • Gently clean the paper path with a lint-free cloth. Look for any debris or small pieces of paper that might be causing the issue.

**3. Check and Clean Rollers

Inspect Rollers:

  • Examine the rollers inside the printer for any visible signs of wear or damage. The rollers should be clean and free of any obstructions.

Clean Rollers:

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol to clean the rollers. Rotate the rollers manually while cleaning to ensure all areas are covered. Avoid using too much liquid.

**4. Verify Paper Type and Size

Use Correct Paper:

  • Ensure you are using the correct type and size of paper for your printer. Check the printer’s manual for the recommended paper specifications.

Avoid Wrinkled or Damaged Paper:

  • Use only smooth, flat paper. Avoid using paper that is wrinkled, torn, or damaged, as this can cause jams.

**5. Check Printer Settings

Verify Settings:

  • In your printer settings (accessible from the printer's display or through the HP software on your computer), make sure the paper type and size settings match the paper loaded in the tray.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP Support website to check for and install any available firmware updates for your printer. Firmware updates can sometimes resolve bugs or issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
