@Sam2395,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

1. Check for Paper Debris in the Printer

Open all paper paths (input tray, output tray, duplexer, and rear access area).

Look inside the printer using a flashlight for any small torn pieces of paper.

Use compressed air to clear dust and debris.

2. Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

Turn off the printer and unplug it.

Open the rear access door or duplexer and locate the rollers.

Dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water and clean the rollers.

Allow them to dry for 10 minutes before turning the printer back on.

3. Reset the Printer (Basic Reset)

With the printer turned on, unplug the power cable from the back.

Wait for 60 seconds and plug it back in.

Turn the printer on and check if the issue persists.

4. Update Firmware

Go to HP Support → Search for HP Envy Photo 7858 → Download the latest firmware.

Install and restart the printer.

5. Check the Sensor Flag and Encoder Strip

Open the cartridge access door and locate the paper sensor flag .

Ensure it moves freely and is not stuck.

Clean the transparent encoder strip behind the carriage using a dry lint-free cloth.

6. Factory Reset

A factory reset can clear software glitches causing false errors. Here’s how to reset:

Open the Support Menu

On the printer touchscreen, swipe down and tap Setup.

Tap Printer MaintenanceRestoreRestore Factory Defaults.

If Touchscreen Doesn't Allow Reset

Power off the printer.

Press and hold "Back" (↩) + "Cancel" (X) + "Power" at the same time.

Release when the HP logo appears.

This will reset the printer to factory settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
