Have HP M29w laser printer with paper jam behind the outfeed rollers. Need to remove top of printer.  Three of the hinges are easy to "pop".  The fourth hinge (left rear) is different. How do I un-hook that one????

Hi @Rickie85

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To remove the top of your HP LaserJet M29w printer and address the paper jam issue behind the outfeed rollers, follow these steps. Since the left rear hinge is different, it may require some extra attention:

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Power Off the Printer
Before disassembling any parts, ensure that the printer is powered off and unplugged from the electrical socket.

Access the Rear Door
Open the rear door where paper jams can usually be cleared from. Check and clear any paper or debris from the area, especially behind the outfeed rollers.

Remove the Paper Tray
If the paper tray is inserted, remove it to ensure you have full access to the top of the printer.

Pop the Easy Hinges
As you’ve already noticed, three hinges (likely on the front and sides of the printer) are easy to pop open. Carefully lift the top cover from the front, and remove any screws holding the cover in place if necessary.

Accessing the Left Rear Hinge
The left rear hinge may be more tricky to remove compared to the others. Here’s what you can do:

  • Look closely at the left rear hinge and check if there are any visible latches or locking tabs. Some HP printers use a small plastic latch that holds the hinge in place.
  • If it’s just a snap-style hinge, gently press on the latch or mechanism that holds the hinge in place, while carefully wiggling the top cover free. Be cautious not to use excessive force.
  • In some cases, you may need to slide the hinge (or a part of the hinge mechanism) to the side before it can be released. Look for any small sliders or tabs.

Remove the Top Cover
Once all the hinges are popped or released, carefully lift off the top cover to access the internal components and the paper jam area.

Clear the Jam
After removing the cover, check for any paper or debris behind the outfeed rollers. Carefully remove any paper and ensure there’s no remaining debris obstructing the path.

Reassemble the Printer
After clearing the jam, carefully reassemble the printer in reverse order, making sure the top cover clicks back into place and that all hinges are properly reattached

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
