I call technical support. The guy stated it would cost $19  to research problem. I stated that my printer was less than a year old and he hung up on me.

Welcome to the HP Community --

If the printer is still in-Warranty, contact HP Support as opposed to contacting random tech who hangs up on you.

Truth told, one should never trust "Internet" sites who provide phone numbers and claim to be HP -- they are not HP -

What?

  • HP Support does not free-post phone numbers on the Internet.
  • HP Support does not "chat" and then have someone call you. (Do not give out your private information to these people.)
  • HP Support does not just happen to know who you are and offer helpful advice that includes telling you that your computer is full of bugs.
  • In some situations, the "techs" will beg, threaten, cajole, and try to sell you various "protection" packages.

Reminders - READ

Online Case Submission to HP Support is available to those whose devices registered and are still in Warranty.

Some regions display phone / chat contact information only after the case is submitted online

Not every issue is covered under the standard Hardware Warranty.  Purchased Care Pack Warranties differ by contract.

HP is not a "general" repair facility: Requests for out-of-warranty repairs are usually not accepted.

If the problem is hardware, if your device is in Warranty, if your device is Registered, and you cannot submit your case to Support, let us know and we will forward a request.

Important

HP Phone numbers you find on the Internet have likely been hijacked. Old HP phone numbers – for example, those numbers no longer used by HP since the move to “online” case submissions – might have been taken over by thieves.

Never post private information in the HP Community!

Do not be a victim.

Stay vigilant.

What else?

Not sure -- if there a a physical reason the door does not close, it might indeed be hardware related.

You could try checking in Troubleshooting -- drag through the different sub-topics to see if you find something that looks reasonably related..

For example -- this might not be what you seek -- it does show how to open and clean the printer...
