HP PageWide Enterprise Color MFP 586f

Have an HP PageWide MFP 586f Printer (PN: G1W40A) and the ADF feeds paper but makes a clicking noise, as if gears are grinding.  This is NOT an issue of the ADF not processing paper - it does, but it makes an obnoxious clicking sound, and I worry that it's just a matter of time until it can no longer feed documents at all.

This printer is huge and I do NOT wish to have to mail it or drag it in somewhere for service.  I wish to repair it myself - I simply need some guidance on what I should be looking at repairing.  I do NOT want to endure an HP "support" case, so please don't waste your time or mine suggesting that if you're an HP employee, etc.  Again, I wish to self-repair and just need a bit of guidance on *what* needs to be repaired.

I have a copy of the Repair Manual from this location:

THank you.

Maybe broken latch on the ADF lid, the one you open when there is a jam. Test this by holding the top while scanning. Press on the back side where the latch is. If that is the cause, you will need to source a used part or replace the ADF as there are no parts available from HP.
