Welcome to the HP Community --

The Printer has two ways of knowing which paper you are using:

  • Printer Settings - Tray and Paper
  • Printer Software / Application Settings - Dependent on Operating System / version

Unless something is hung up / stuck, the procedure to (re)check / (re)adjust the paper size and type in the printer (Tray and Paper) are the same as if you had actually changed / loaded different paper.

=====================================

Printer - (Re)Load Paper

Remove the paper from the input tray, stack, and reload.

Check / Configure the Tray and Paper Settings as if you changed the paper size / type.

One way to do this is to change the default setting for Large paper and then put it back.

Printer - Tray and Paper / EWS

EWS > HP Document / How-to

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section How do I manually assign an IP address to my printer?  Items 1-2

EWS – Browser – Tray and Paper Management

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)

Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type

Model Dependent:  Advanced section

Click Apply to save changes

Tray and Paper – Paper Size / Paper Type / Paper Weight

Reminder

HP Smart Mobile might require that paper size / type is rechecked / adjusted before the content is opened for print.

Paper Size, Type, and Weight loaded in the printer tray must be supported for use in that tray.

EWS provides access and control to check / adjust Tray and Paper Settings.

==================================

Printer - Print Software / Application

What you can do in the job configuration depends on your device and Operating System / version.

HP Smart works similarly across devices with the caveat that there are significant differences in how, when, or whether paper size / type can be selected during the job setup.

Reminder >> Selected paper size and paper type in the job configuration must be a matched set to the paper size / type in the printer.

What?

Paper size and type mis-match is not common -- If you are unsure, it is worth checking your job configuration.

General Example - HP Smart - Windows - Simple Photo Print - 4x6 in

Job Configuration - Continued

The printer is not aware of what it is printing.

Caveats

  • This printer series requires a larger margin along the bottom edge
  • The printer does not support Borderless.
  • The printer won't copy or print money / legal tender - you know, International laws against counterfeiting.

These are a hardware limitation -- there is no software or application "fix" to override the mechanics.

Borderless PrintingNo

and

Print Margin Bottom (A4)12.7 mm
Print Margin Left (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Right (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Top (A4)3 mm

The solutions:

  • Edit the original document
  • Set the margins to no smaller then "narrow" (12.7mm or 1/2 inch all around)
  • Do not select Borderless, Fill, or "Print to edge"
