After clearing a business cardstock jam, unit continues to jam.  I noticed ink (whole words) on the shiny black film that runs across the bottom of the printer inside the back door.  Should I attempt to clean this area?  If so, how do I I clean the ink from this area?

You can use a soft, link free cloth to gently wipe off excess toner. Use no chemicals or damp items. Do not scrub as you can damage the mylar belt. Normally you should not have to clean the belt, it should self clean itself once you have unjammed the printer. I suggest you find the cause of the jam and fix that first and if you keep having image problems you could clean the belt after that. The less you touch the inside of the printer the better.
