Welcome to HP Support Community, @Mattyp156

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

1. Press the Cancel Button

Press Cancel on the printer’s control panel.

Wait until all internal movements stop and the printer becomes completely silent.

2. Check for Paper or Obstructions
Access the Carriage Area

Open the cartridge access door.

Look inside using a flashlight if needed.

Manually Test Carriage Movement

Gently try sliding the ink carriage left and right.

If it doesn’t move, do not force it—this usually indicates a jam or stuck sensor.

Remove Obstructions

Look for:

Torn pieces of paper

Paper stuck behind rollers

Foreign objects (clips, labels, dust buildup)

Remove everything carefully using both hands.

3. Verify the Carriage Latch (If Applicable)

Some models have a carriage latch or printhead latch.

Ensure it is:

Fully seated

Locked securely
A loose latch can prevent carriage movement and trigger errors.

4. Perform a Power Reset
Reset Sequence

Turn off the printer.

Unplug the power cable from the printer and the wall socket.

Wait 60 seconds (clears static + memory).

Plug directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips).

Power on the printer.

This reset restarts the carriage motor and clears false jam errors.

5. Test Print Function

After rebooting, print a Test Page or Self-Test Report.

If successful, the carriage mechanism is functioning normally.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
