Hi @HB616,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet 6960 printer is displaying a paper jam message when you turn it on, there could be a few reasons for this. Here's what you can do to troubleshoot the issue.
- Check for Jammed Paper: Open the printer's access doors and check for any jammed paper inside the printer. This could be in the input tray, output tray, or any other accessible areas.
- Remove Paper: If you find any jammed paper, gently remove it from the printer. Be careful not to tear the paper, as any small shreds left behind could cause future jams.
- Reset the Printer: Sometimes, resetting the printer can clear out error messages. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on.
- Inspect Paper Path: Inspect the entire paper path for any obstructions. This includes looking inside the printer as well as any trays or feed mechanisms.
- Check for Sensor Blockage: There are sensors inside the printer that detect paper jams. Ensure that none of these sensors are blocked or obstructed by any debris or paper bits.
- Use Correct Paper Type and Size: Make sure you are using the correct type and size of paper that is supported by your printer. Using incompatible paper can lead to jams.
- Clean Rollers: Paper jams can also be caused by dirty or worn-out rollers. Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth and water or isopropyl alcohol. Allow the rollers to dry completely before using the printer again.
- Update Firmware/Driver: Ensure that your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause issues like false paper jam errors.
If you've tried these steps and are still experiencing the paper jam error, it's possible that there may be a hardware issue with the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
