I have an OfficeJet Pro 9016 and it is giving me a paper jam error message. I cleared the paper jam and tried everything to get this code off. Turning machine off, cleaning, etc and it will not let me scan but it will let me print.

Hi @JampotJulie ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting a paper jam error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9016 can be frustrating, especially when it prevents you from scanning but still allows printing. Here are steps to address the issue thoroughly:

1. Double-check for Paper Fragments

  • Inspect the Paper Path: Look for any small fragments of paper left in the paper path, rollers, or feed areas.
  • Check the Rear Access Door or Duplexer:
    • Remove the rear access panel or duplexer.
    • Inspect and clear any debris or small paper pieces.
  • Look Inside the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder):
    • Open the ADF cover and check for paper jams or fragments in the feed mechanism.

2. Clean the Rollers

  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Wipe the rollers gently to remove any dust or debris.
  • Allow the rollers to dry completely before reassembling the printer.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can help reset error messages.

4. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date:
    • Open the HP Smart app or go to the HP Support website.
    • Download and install any available firmware updates for your printer.

5. Check the ADF Sensor

  • The error may be triggered by a misaligned or malfunctioning sensor in the ADF:
    • Open the ADF cover and ensure the sensor is clean and not obstructed.
    • Use compressed air to blow out dust if necessary.

6. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the printer from power while it is on.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer back on.

7. Run a Diagnostic Tool

  • Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Find your printer's IP address (from the printer display or configuration page).
    • Enter the IP address in a web browser.
    • Navigate to Diagnostics and run any available troubleshooting tools.

8. Test Scanning Without Using the ADF

  • Try scanning using the flatbed scanner to determine if the issue is specific to the ADF.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
