I’ve had problems after changing out a print cartridge. The printer keeps saying it was shut down incorrectly, which it wasn’t then I get a paper jam error, which I have not had a paper jam. Then I get a printer failure, code 0.6100004a

Hi @Higheroctave,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

For the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-In-One Printer, the error code "0x6100004a" typically indicates a hardware issue. Here are specific steps you can take to address the problem:

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open all access doors and check for any paper jams inside the printer.
  • Carefully remove any jammed paper if found.
  • Make sure there are no bits of torn paper left inside.

Inspect the Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that the new print cartridge is installed correctly.
  • Remove the cartridge and reseat it properly in its designated slot.

Clean the Printer Rollers:

  • Paper dust or debris on the rollers might cause issues. Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect all cables from the printer, including the power cord.
  • Wait for at least 10 minutes.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Update Firmware/Drivers:

  • Visit the HP support website and check for firmware or driver updates for your OfficeJet Pro 6978. If updates are available, install them.

I’ve tried all the suggestions and still having the same issues. No paper jam I can find. Rollers seem to be okay. Print tray seems to be stuck on right side. Have tried all the resets and still coming up with the same errors. Don’t know if it’s applicable but the left back of the printer doesn’t sound right when it’s going through the boot up process. I do appreciate all the suggestions Rachel571.
