Hi @SMC5975,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Verify Envelope Specifications
- Ensure you are using envelopes that meet the printer's specifications. Check the list of supported envelope sizes for the HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e:
- U.S. 10: 105 x 241 mm (4.1 x 9.5 inches)
- DL: 110 x 220 mm (4.3 x 8.7 inches)
- C5: 162 x 229 mm (6.4 x 9.0 inches)
- Note: Ensure the envelopes are within these size limits and are not overly thick or heavy.
Load Envelopes Correctly
- Load the envelopes into the input tray with the print-side facing down and the flap to the left.
- Adjust the paper-width guides so they gently rest against the edges of the envelopes.
- Avoid overloading the input tray; ensure the stack of envelopes does not exceed the paper tray's capacity.
Adjust Printer Settings
- In the printer settings, ensure you select the correct paper type and size for envelopes.
Check and Reset Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the input tray, remove all paper, and check for any paper jams or obstructions.
- Reload the envelopes and close the input tray.
- Plug in and turn on the printer.
Perform Printer Maintenance
- Run a printer maintenance procedure to check the alignment and calibrate the printer. This can be done from the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app.
Resolving "Out of Paper" Error
Cleaning the Paper Feed Rollers
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the input tray and locate the paper feed rollers.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the rollers.
- Allow the rollers to dry completely before reinserting the input tray and plugging in the printer.
Check for Firmware Updates
- Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Go to the HP Support Page and check for firmware updates for your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e.
Control Panel Checks
- Use the printer’s control panel to navigate to settings and clear any paper error notifications.
- Perform a printer reset from the control panel: Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Printer Defaults.
Following these troubleshooting steps should help resolve the issue of the HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e printer showing "out of paper" while attempting to print envelopes.
I hope this helps.

Kuroi,
I want to thank you very much for following up with the issue that I had encountered in using the printer. I stepped out for a short time today. I came back home to find the printer working perfectly fine now.
I have really enjoyed using the printer, and was only upset when it would not change from envelope printing to regular 8 1/2 x 11 paper. I use the printer extensively for a second form of documentation for my all of my reports, taxes, etc.
Thank you again!

Kuroi,
Your assistance in getting my printer working fine again was excellent! I will use your suggestions for fixing the issues in the future if I have any further questions. But, as of now, and with your assistance, the printer is working fine.
I definitely believe in having backup drives, but hard copies are always needed, but printed documents can be used to share among coworkers and are more cost efficient, and are more readily available to larger groups.
Thank you again!!!
