Hi @Photosmart6 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with a jammed document in the scanner portion of the HP ENVY 6455e can be challenging, especially if there are no visible release mechanisms. Here are detailed steps you can follow to safely remove the jammed paper:

1. Power Off the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source to avoid any electrical hazards or damage.

2. Open the Scanner Lid

  • Lift the scanner lid carefully. Most HP ENVY models allow the scanner lid to lift to expose the glass and any underlying components.

3. Inspect the Jam Area

  • Look for the jammed paper under the scanner glass or near the scanner mechanism. Use a flashlight if visibility is poor.

4. Gently Remove the Jammed Paper

If the paper is accessible:

  • Hold it with both hands to ensure even pressure.
  • Pull it out slowly and straight to avoid tearing.

If the paper is tightly stuck:

  • Use tweezers or a similar tool to gently grip the paper edges. Be cautious not to damage the scanner components.

5. Check for Additional Pieces

  • Inspect the area thoroughly for any remaining paper bits or debris, which can cause future jams.

6. Test the Scanner Movement

  • Manually move the scanner head (if it’s safe to do so) to ensure there’s no obstruction.

7. Clean the Scanner Glass

  • While the scanner lid is open, clean the glass and surrounding area with a lint-free cloth and a small amount of glass cleaner applied to the cloth (not directly to the glass).

8. Close the Scanner Lid and Test

  • Lower the scanner lid and ensure it’s securely closed.
  • Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and test the scanner to ensure functionality.

If You Still Can’t Remove the Paper

If the paper is inaccessible or the scanner head is locked in place:

  1. Reset the Printer:
    • Plug it back in and turn it on. Allow the scanner head to reset itself, which may free the jammed paper.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
