Paper stops every time when the top reaches the fuser. The top 1/3 of the sheet is printed. The display says Jam in cartridge area. I have tried 2 different cartridges. The drum is rotating. The wire/spring over the gear where the cartridge connects to the motor on the right side of the interior, seems to be bent?

Any idea where the problem lies?

Are you sure that the fuser is rotating? If the paper is getting past the drum unit and has toner on it you are correct in stating that the drum is rotating or the paper would jam there. Stopping at the fuser indicates either the fuser is not rotating, which will normally result in some buckling of the paper, or that a sensor is bad and the paper is stopping because the printer has no idea where the top of the page is, resulting in a perceived jam.

The paper stops just as it enters the fuser. The fuser roller is rotating. I have taken the fuser unit out, and everything looks fine. Maybe the surface of the yellow-red fuser roller is slippery so that it cannot transport the paper any further? Is there a way of cleaning the roller?

I have never in over 25 years in this business run into a fuser roller that as too slippery. Can you post a picture on the bent contact you mention in original post please.

There are springs made out of thick wire, on both sides inside, to hold the toner cartridge in place. The right one is loose. I have removed the plastic guide the spring is attached to, and a piece of the plastic is missing (broken). I don't think this is the cause of the paper feed problem. 

Can a malfunctioning paper-sensor at the start of the paper path cause souch problems? It is moving freely.

On second thought: The paper stops in the inlet to the fuser and is curled up there, so the sensor can not be to blame.

I have removed the fuser unit. It is not possible to advance the paper by rotating the roller. I have tried to clean the roller, no effect. The problem must then be a sticky fuser sleeve or a slippery roller. Any suggestions?

Paper stopping and crinkling at the fuser would suggest that the fuser is not rotating or the rollers are damaged. What method did you use to confirm that the fuser rotates properly during operation? Out of the printer it can be hard to rotate the rollers using the gears, but they should turn. If not, the upper and lower roller may be stuck together.

I removed the side panels and could confirm that the fuser roller gear was rotating during a print job. 

I then removed the fuser unit and tried to feed a paper while rotating the fuser roller gear. The paper moves 2-3mm in between the roller and heater, but is not advanced any further. 

I also disasembled the fuser and there is noe sign of damage to the roller or the heater sleeve.

Have you checked the paper path flag under the registration assembly?
