A difficult paper jam.

I own a M203dw printer and it presents a firm paper jam. Do you suggest that I buy a new one.

Do I have to buy a new printer? My M203dw has a paper jam. The simple jam fixes don't work. The paper is still in there.

Hi @PierreLeB,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Make sure the printer is turned off and unplugged from the power source to prevent any potential harm.

Open All Access Doors:

  • Open the main input tray and paper output areas to locate the jammed paper.
  • Carefully open the toner cartridge access door and remove the toner cartridge to gain better access to the jammed area.

Gently Remove Jammed Paper:

  • If you can see the jammed paper, gently pull it out of the printer. Always pull the paper straight to avoid tearing.
  • If the paper tears, make sure to remove all torn pieces from the rollers and inside the printer.

Inspect for Small Paper Pieces:

  • Use a flashlight to check inside the printer for any small torn pieces of paper. These can often be lodged in the rollers or at the back of the printer.

Check the Rear Access Panel:

  • Some printers have a rear access door or a duplexer (if your model supports double-sided printing). Check here for any paper blockages.

Examine the Rollers:

  • Inspect the paper rollers to ensure no small bits of paper are stuck. You can manually rotate the rollers if needed to check for any obstructions.

Reconnect and Test:

  • Reinsert the toner cartridge if removed, close all access doors, reconnect the printer to the power, and turn it on.
  • Load paper and perform a test print to ensure the paper path is clear.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
