MFP M277 printers paper jam warning but there is no paper jam.

It has been stated that there are some sensors that can be dirty or misaligned.

Where are these sensors located?

Hi @Mattb61, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277 series printer has multiple sensors that detect paper movement and jams. If your printer is displaying a false paper jam error, it's possible that a sensor is dirty, stuck, or misaligned. Here’s where to find these sensors:

1. Paper Input Sensors (Tray and Pick-Up Area)

  • Location: Inside the main paper tray and near the rollers.
  • Issue: Dust, debris, or misaligned rollers can prevent proper sensor function.
  • Fix: Remove the paper tray and clean the rollers and sensors inside.

2. Registration and Feed Sensors (Middle Path)

  • Location: Just after the pick-up roller, near the paper path entry.
  • Issue: A small piece of paper may be stuck or a sensor flag might be misaligned.
  • Fix: Open the front door and remove the toner cartridges to check inside.

3. Fuser Exit Sensor (Near the Output)

  • Location: Just before the paper exits the printer, near the fuser.
  • Issue: If the sensor is dirty or the fuser roller is worn, it may falsely detect a jam.
  • Fix: Open the rear door and check the fuser area for debris or stuck sensor flags.

4. Duplexing Path Sensor (If Using Duplex Printing)

  • Location: Inside the duplexing mechanism (if enabled).
  • Issue: Paper fragments or dust may interfere with the sensor.
  • Fix: Open the duplex path cover and inspect for obstructions.

How to Clean the Sensors

  1. Power off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Use compressed air or a soft brush to clean dust and debris.
  3. Use a lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) to gently wipe the sensor lenses or flags.
  4. Move any sensor flags gently to check if they are stuck.
  5. Power the printer back on and test.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
