My HP 7640 shows on the screen "'the document feeder was not able to pick up the original."

Document feeder not picking up the original is the error message.  Trying to copy from the document feeder.  Because of this error,, cannot copy from the scanner.  Can print from my computer.  Help.  Thanks

Thanks for your response.  I am going to work on it now.  You asked about scanning.  Using HP Smart, and putting the document in the feeder tray, I got the same error message.  Unable to scan directly from the scanning tray....seemed like that was not related to the document feeder.
